Leading the Green Trend, International Jewelry Council Releases the First "Traceable Diamond" Certification Standard

[Antwerp, Belgium] The International Gemstone Council recently officially released the globally unified "Traceable Diamond Standard Framework", aiming to establish a transparent, ethical and sustainable diamond traceability system for the entire jewelry industry. This initiative is hailed by the industry as a crucial step towards a "completely clean" supply chain.

This framework mandates that all certified diamonds must have their entire production process information, from mining, cutting, polishing to final sale, recorded on a secure blockchain platform. Consumers can verify the authenticity of the diamond by scanning the QR code on the jewelry. They can also clearly understand its "background": including the origin mine, the mining date, the carbon emissions during the processing, and the proof that its source does not involve conflict or inhumane labor practices.

"Today's consumers, especially the millennials and the Z generation, are not just buying products; they are purchasing the values behind the brands," the president of the International Gem Council emphasized at the launch ceremony. "Transparency is no longer an option but a necessity. This framework will help consumers make more confident choices and drive the entire industry towards a more responsible future."

Many of the world's top jewelry brands have indicated that they will actively respond and adopt this standard. The first batch of diamond jewelry bearing the "IGC Traceability Certification" logo is expected to be showcased in some designated stores in the first quarter of next year. This move will undoubtedly intensify the competition within the industry in the sustainable development sector and drive the upgrading of the entire supply chain.
